My story, continued…
I’m Natalie Flower, and I feel genuine affection for fabric. It makes me happy. Thus, Flower and Fabric was born. Sewing is what I love most, and what I do most of.
Fun fact: I got my sewing machine (a Janome one that they don’t make any more) circa 2009. It sat in its box, unopened, for ten years. I had originally intended on knocking up cushion covers, curtains etc for the house I was renovating at the time. I didn’t know how to sew, but was willing to give it a go. Turns out I was too busy to sit down and learn how to use the machine, and I was also a bit scared of it.
Fast forward to lockdown #1 2020, when I carried the poor, unloved thing in from the garage. I opened the slightly musty-smelling box, and a magical, almost ethereal light emanated from it, filling my soul with the desire to create handmade garments.*
After much Googling and YouTubing and practising, I discovered that I could actually make things. *flicks hair*
I make things for my kids (now 4 and 2, look how dinky they are on that photo) and myself mostly, and like to give a handmade gift every now and then. Sewing is my favourite way to spend an evening after the kids are in bed, add in a glass of wine and a podcast and I am winning at life.
Thanks for reading my ramblings, I hope you find something here to help you on your sewing journey.
I’ve still never made a cushion cover.
